Another year rolls round

What’s another birthday between blogging friends?

As always it’s a time to reflect a little on another year past. But I’m choosing this year mostly to be in the now, rather than in the might-have-been past. Life feels good overall and I’m immensely grateful for that.

So by way of a celebration of life, I took the day off work. My schedule had been chock-full of meetings — and my life was never meant to be all about corporate stuff! Instead (after coffee and presents in bed, and my mum and dad singing to me on the phone) Hubby and I hit the road and went on a little trip to enjoy the spring countryside. Big blue skies, rolling green downland, the first insects out (bees and some tentatively chirruping grasshoppers), warblers and finches in the hedgerow, and even a tawny owl out flying in broad daylight. So much open space to empty my head completely. I’m definitely a country girl by nature!

imageThen back to town singing along to fave Greek songs in the car to arrive in time for first Sanskrit class after the Easter break. More fun that you’d think, even if it’s not a typical birthday treat. We even talked about whether I could do the basic public exam in Sanskrit (iGCSE). My teacher was very enthusiastic. And he’s already thinking about A-Level… 🙂 Woah!! What about pade pade पदे पदे (one step at a time)?

imageThen a short hop, skip, and jump (reciting my declension endings as I go, of course!) and it’s on to yoga. I arrive early given that I’m coming from Sanskrit class, so it’s often a chance to nobnob a little with the teacher or whoever’s around. I brought biscuits (in Greece you always treat your friends on your birthday, rather than the other way round — I like to follow this tradition!). My first ever attempt at vegan baking: I think they were OK!

After class, home to champagne and some post-yoga refuelling. I promise I also rehydrated with something more sensible!

A wonderful day. A celebration of life continuing — with family, and old and new friends alongside me, in the physical world and the virtual world. Never mind the ageing process, I feel stronger and more full of life than I have for decades! I couldn’t have done all these things in one day last year, and that at least is worth remembering.
