Who’s next to me?

Again a quick word from my TT whirlwind, to capture a moment, although I am too tired for careful words. Stay with me, my beloved readers. We've been given class by a few different teachers these past days. We're encouraged to talk about our experiences of them afterwards, as both students and student teachers. I confessed... Affirmative

A quick word from my TT whirlwind, to capture a moment, although I am too tired for careful words. Stay with me, dear readers. So many affirmatives these past few days: You are beautiful. Your meditation really moved me. I enjoyed the poem you read. I love it when you leave your hair down. The colour pink really suits... I am nothing on my own

I logged onto my work email this morning with a slightly heavy heart. Last day in the office before 2 weeks off means a lot of loose ends to tidy up and work to set straight. Plus this week in general feels like wading through treacle. I feel dull with no energy. And yoga class... Continue Reading →

Yearning for the beloved

Last week while I was in Greece Hubby and I were talking about our favourite time of day. We agreed that (at least when we're in the Mediterranean) it's the early evening. The moment when the work of the day is done, the temperature's cooled off a little, and the freedom of evening beckons. The light changes... Continue Reading →

Together alone

I've just left Hubby in Greece. He's staying out longer than I can, given my other commitments. We have a long history of airport/train station goodbyes as our relationship gradually shifted from two separate continents, to the same continent, then to the same country, and finally to the same town. What we don't know about... Continue Reading →

My annoying habit with yoga blocks

After class the other day my friend told me about the difficulty she had during the practice, when we were doing supine twists. You know the problem? Mats close together means everyone has to roll in neat synchronisation, otherwise there's just not enough room. My friend's neighbour seemed to have arms and legs everywhere meaning... Yoga practice as a band aid

I have been touched by some expressions of care from readers following some recent posts where I've been confronting the fact that practice isn't always an uplifting experience and can be downright troubling. Blogging about personal experiences -- like yoga itself -- is a bit of a leap of faith. But if I'm finding something... Continue Reading →

Books vs body

Prof Mark Williams -- the proponent of mindfulness meditation for depression and other chronic illnesses (a kind of British Jon Kabat-Zinn if I may) -- really spoke to me when he said that he once thought he could learn everything about Mindfulness by reading about it. And then he realised that it's a practice. And... Continue Reading →

Love and acceptance on Mother’s Day

It was Mother's Day in UK yesterday. Yes, we like to do things differently! My parents stayed for the weekend and I took my mum out for dinner -- and we graciously let our husbands come along too! I confess I'm a bit ambivalent about Mother's Day. I put it in the same category as... Continue Reading →

Beloved savasana

My teacher sometimes refers to śavāsana as a 'little death' and I have to fight an immature giggle at what can only sound like a sexual metaphor to my ears. Funny in contrast that his referring to the breath as 'the beloved' simply sounds esoteric and rather pure! Because 'bhakti' isn't from my native language... Continue Reading →
