Free stuff at work today! And not just ‘action points’ from meetings which are always dispensed very liberally in my direction….!
A nice young man (I feel almost old enough to say this non-ironically!) from the local council came in to dispense advice and information about doorstep recycling. We had a great chat about the ‘stretch test’ that determines whether plastic wrappers are recyclable or not. And I found out that I don’t need to worry any more (is this my age again?!) about the grade/number on plastic items since apparently the council now takes them all.
He kindly gave me some compostable liners for my food waste bin and a plastic bag (proudly proclaiming itself to be made of recycled materials) to put my dead batteries in.
My friend who organised this little recycling fiesta was collecting pledges from people of what more they can do to help the environment. She let me off a formal pledge when I told her about my bandaging up of my badly cracked iPad rather than just blithely buying a new one. She told me I “do my bit already”.
Barely — but it’s nice to get some encouragement.
She does good stuff encouraging colleagues at work to act more responsibly in all areas of their life, home and in the office.
And she more than “does her bit” too. Hats off to her, little gem (organic, of course!) that she is.
