Hotel yoga

imageHubby and I are away for a few days’ holiday by the sea as a birthday treat. OK, April in UK isn’t exactly beach weather, but we’ve been enjoying some lovely sunshine, a lot of ozone, and the most wonderful sea view from our balcony. Hotels are fun as a temporary home offering all sorts of facilities and opportunities. But I hate doing my yoga in a hotel room — even one with a beautiful view and even if I have my own mat. There’s something about hotels carpets and the view of the inevitable fluff under the furniture that depresses me. I don’t want to be depressed when I’m on holiday. But I still want to practise, so…

Yesterday was pretty warm and still so I rolled my mat out in a quiet corner outside. I like to think I get pretty absorbed in my practice and am not easily distracted but I really don’t like being an object of interest, so I set up as far away from the pool as I could. Hubby sat a little way off reading — and chaperoning. He told me afterwards he was one step from telling some guy to go away and stop staring at his wife! Who knew my practice was so interesting (to anyone other than my mum that is)?

Today there was quite a breeze and a bit chilly, so I didn’t really want to be outside. When I asked at reception for suggestions they said they actually had a little studio I could use. Wow — a room all to myself! Better than at home — no furniture moving required, just a big room with a good floor and a wall uncluttered by picture frames. And no perving men here! So I had a lot of fun, even using the wall to kick up against for a little exploring of inversions after my experiments the other day.

Practice topped off by a swim with Hubby — I could happily stay here a while longer!
